A friend of mine is getting married this summer, and we had a crafting party at her house to make her wedding decorations and centerpieces. Everything is made from paper. From the streamers, to the centerpieces, to the flowers. Old sheet music, old books, anything she could get her hands on. It's a cool concept and I totally respect the budget friendly approach.
Anyway, she taught me how to make these book pillars. She requested that we bring old books to her party to make them. But when I was cleaning out the closet, I found a one more and decided to get craft while watching TV.
Here's how it turned out.

They are really, really easy to make! All you need is an old book you aren't using anymore. (A 300-400 page, soft-cover is about perfect).
First, rip off the cover, spine cover, and back cover.
Fold the pages in half toward the spine one by one like this...
Make sure you give them a crease as you fold so they hold their shape. After about 10 minutes of folding, you will end up with a pretty column to set on your mantle that was 100% free and 100% beautiful!...although 0% readable. Hopefully you've already done that. ;)
